ChatGPT Pro 100 vs Pro 200 vs Pro 500: what the extra money buys
ChatGPT Pro used to be one $200 plan. Now there are three tiers, and the old $200 deal changes on October 29. Here’s what each tier actually adds, what OpenAI hasn’t published, and who should pay for which, or stay on Plus.
The three Pro tiers differ mostly in how much you can use. Pro 100 ($100) is the entry point; Pro 200 ($200) gives more usage and unlimited voice; Pro 500 ($500) gives the most (OpenAI says 25× Plus) and is the only tier with Ultrafast. If you had Pro 200 before September 29, your old allowance ends October 29, 2026. Most people only need Plus ($20).
Pro 100 vs 200 vs 500, side by side
| Pro 100 | Pro 200 | Pro 500 | |
|---|---|---|---|
| Price | $100/mo | $200/mo | $500/mo |
| Usage vs Plus | about 5× reported | about 10× for new subscribers reported | 25× (OpenAI) |
| Ultrafast (Work and Codex) | No | No | Yes |
| GPT-6 Pro (Astra) in chat | One weekly allowance, shared with GPT-5.6 Sol Pro | Its own weekly allowance | Not published |
| Voice (GPT-Live-1) | 15 hours per 24 hours | Unlimited | Not published |
| Computer use in Codex and Work (Agents API) | No | No | Yes |
| 5-hour limit in Codex and Work | None on any Pro tier (a weekly allowance still applies) | ||
| Same on all three | Pro reasoning (GPT-6 Astra), Dot always-on agent, unlimited and faster images, maximum deep research, 128K/400K context | ||
From OpenAI’s Pro tiers, voice and usage help articles, its pricing page and the DevDay 2026 recap, checked Oct 12, 2026. OpenAI publishes only the Pro 500 multiple; the Pro 100 and Pro 200 multiples come from an OpenAI staff statement reported by the press.
Notice the math: if the reported multiples are right, every tier costs about $20 per “Plus’s worth” of usage. Bigger tiers buy a bigger bucket, not a discount, except Ultrafast on Pro 500.
What changes for Pro 200 on October 29
OpenAI reopened Pro 200 to new subscribers on September 29 with a lower allowance, to reflect what it calls increasingly efficient models. Existing subscribers are protected for a month. OpenAI’s exact rule:
- Grandfathering applies if you had an active Pro 200 subscription at any point from September 22 through 10 a.m. Pacific on September 29, 2026.
- You keep the previous allowance through October 29, 2026 while your subscription stays active. After that you move to the new allowance; the price stays $200.
- Grandfathering doesn’t add Ultrafast or turn your plan into Pro 500.
If you’re grandfathered, watch your usage in late October: if you regularly used most of the old allowance, compare Pro 200’s new allowance with Pro 500 before November.
What is Ultrafast, and is it worth it?
Ultrafast is a premium speed mode, up to 8× faster in Codex, for GPT-6 Astra and GPT-6.1 Sol in ChatGPT Work and Codex. Among Pro plans only Pro 500 has it, and buying credits on Pro 100 or 200 doesn’t unlock it. The catch: Ultrafast uses your allowance 8 times faster than standard speed, then credits at 6× the normal rate. It’s for people who run long coding or agent jobs and value time over usage. Users report a week of Pro 500 can go in a few hours of heavy Ultrafast use reported.
Who needs which tier?
- Plus ($20): most people, including regular use of deep research, images and some Codex. See Free vs Go vs Plus.
- Pro 100: you hit Plus limits every week, usually in Codex or ChatGPT Work, or want Pro reasoning for hard problems now and then.
- Pro 200: daily heavy use, lots of voice, or frequent Pro reasoning.
- Pro 500: professional coders or agent builders who need maximum usage and Ultrafast speed.
Coding is what usually pushes people to Pro. If that’s you, also compare Codex vs Claude Code and what Claude Code costs: Claude Max starts at $100 too.
Switching tiers
- Change plans in Settings → My Plan. At launch, Pro 500 could only be bought on the web.
- OpenAI doesn’t publish how upgrades or downgrades are prorated, and a plan change alone doesn’t qualify for a refund.
- Pro is monthly only; there’s no annual discount. To stop, cancel where you paid.
- Sharing or reselling a Pro account is against OpenAI’s rules and can get it closed.

Quick answers
What is the difference between ChatGPT Pro 100 and Pro 200?
Mainly how much usage you get. OpenAI says Pro 200 includes more usage than Pro 100 but doesn’t publish exact multiples; reported figures are about 5× Plus for Pro 100 and 10× Plus for new Pro 200 subscriptions. Pro 200 also has unlimited voice and a separate weekly allowance for GPT-6 Pro. Neither includes Ultrafast.
What does ChatGPT Pro 500 include?
Everything in Pro plus the highest allowance, which OpenAI puts at 25 times the Plus allowance, and Ultrafast speed for GPT-6 Astra and GPT-6.1 Sol in ChatGPT Work and Codex. It also includes computer use through the Agents API in Codex and Work.
What happens to Pro 200 on October 29, 2026?
Subscribers who had Pro 200 active between September 22 and September 29, 2026 keep the old, larger allowance until October 29. After that their plan moves to the new, lower Pro 200 allowance; the price stays $200.
Is there an annual ChatGPT Pro plan?
No. Pro is billed monthly only; OpenAI says annual billing and paying several months in advance aren’t available.
Do I need ChatGPT Pro?
Most people don’t. Plus at $20 covers advanced models, deep research and Codex. Pro makes sense if you hit Plus limits every week, especially with Codex or ChatGPT Work, or need Pro reasoning for hard problems.
